Manhattan Chamber of Commerce (MCC) President Nancy Ploeger Kicks Off Promotion for Small Business Saturday November 30, 2013

Campaign focusing on supporting businesses in the 2nd Ave. subway construction zone

Small Business Saturday, which falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is back on 2nd Avenue in the subway construction zone!

“We know that small businesses are the building blocks that create the identity of a neighborhood and this is a day to support the local heroes that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. American Express created Small Business Saturday in 2010 in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: more demand for their products and services,” states MCC President Ploeger. “We continue to promote the merchants and restaurants along the 2nd Ave. corridor and Small Business Saturday is another great way to bring new and returning customers to these stores.”

Businesses, such as The Comic Strip Live, Marianne Vera Salon, Next Cleaners, Eneslow Shoes & Pedorthics, New York Paint & Hardware and Leonards’ Market, are participating so far and many more are expected to sign up this week! Starting Monday November 25th, MCC is handing out Small Business Saturday tote bags, balloons, bumper magnets and welcome mats to merchants and promoting the day to MCC members and subscribers as well as upper east siders through social media outreach, through emails and on the MCC website.

We hope consumers will join the forces of over 100 million Small Business Saturday shoppers this November 30th!

Make sure to Shop Local on 2nd Avenue or in your own neighborhood and be a part of Small Business Saturday!

MCC Helps Small Businesses Achieve Results on Small Business Saturday

Last weekend, MCC worked with American Express to help small businesses get more customers and visibility. Read this testimonial by Bob Schwartz of Eneslow Shoes about how MCC helped his business:

"As a retailer, 2012’s Small Business Saturday (SBS) was an important marketing and sales opportunity for our Eneslow shoe stores. After “Sandy” we needed something positive to help business turn around, but felt no guarantee of it happening. We planned to offer all customers a $25 gift card with each $100 purchase on SBS. Then along comes Manhattan Chamber of Commerce (MCC) with a complete marketing plan to help invigorate business particularly, but not only on 2nd Avenue.

We thank you for including Eneslow in MCC’s Small Business Saturday initiative. at a level only possible under the MCC management team. You, as president, and your great team helped us achieve a highly successful day.

The fact that MCC was given extra marketing tools to help 2nd Avenue retailers compete made all the difference for Eneslow and I’m sure the others who participated. MCC contributed AMEX $25 gift cards for retailers to give to customers. We offered them to the first 20 customers who came into each Eneslow store on SBS who spent at least $100. In addition, NY Daily News ran a Thanksgiving day article featuring 2nd Avenue businesses; Epoch Times wrote an article on Eneslow and SBS; balloons, floor mats, and shopping bags were provided for display and handout. NBC News TV featured SBS and Eneslow with interviews at the 2nd Avenue store.

Eneslow is grateful to MCC for all the hard work and strong marketing commitment to help 2nd Avenue merchants during these tough times. We further invite small business owners, especially retailers to join Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and take advantage of its commitment to helping small businesses."
