MCC Member(s) Success Story!

At MCC, we work to connect our member companies so great things will happen. When MCC member Slowey/McManus had a special PR opportunity, we were able to connect them with MCC member Quadlogic Controls. This resulted in Quadlogic being quoted in the Inc. magazine article, "Your Road Map to Going Global in Uncertain Times." This is just one of many examples of how MCC works to get member companies visibility and grow their businesses!

MCC Members in the news: MCC member Slowey/McManus Communications, a strategic public relations firm, arranged for fellow MCC member Quadlogic Controls to be highlighted in the Oct. 15, 2012 online edition of Inc. Magazine. The Inc. story is called “Your Road Map to Going Global in Uncertain Times” and discusses supply chain strategy and some of the benefits of being a New York manufacturer. See the story here. For further info contact Jeff Roberts at jroberts@sloweymcmanus.com.

AT&T New York City Update

Here is a message from MCC Bronze Partner AT&T about their initiatives in the 5 boroughs:

Dear Friends:

It's my pleasure to share recent news about AT&T's involvement with many diverse New York City organizations from all across the five boroughs.

Our recent activities in New York spotlight our commitment to furthering innovation, educational opportunities and access to culture and the arts in New York.

I hope you can take a moment to learn more.

Kindest Regards,

Marissa Shorenstein

President — AT&T New York

The Bronx
AT&T supports Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.'s Little League tournament:
"The Borough President's Cup provides 13 and 14 year olds from across the Bronx the rare opportunity to play in a championship game at Yankee Stadium. To compete, players for each Little League had to meet a set of requirements unrelated to their performance on the field, including a B-average in school, at least 90 percent school attendance and demonstrated commitment to community service." — Bronx Borough President's Office, Sept. 19, 2012
Borough President Diaz joins AT&T to announce free WiFi at Hunts Point Riverside Park:
"Hunts Point Riverside is the 24th park location in the city to get AT&T Wi-Fi, so far, and the third in the Bronx. Diaz said the wireless service is just another selling-point for the picturesque 1.4-acre waterfront park, which he called the "oasis" of Hunts Point." — DNA Info, Aug. 21, 2012
Brooklyn
AT&T brings smartphone app to the Brooklyn Book Festival at Brooklyn Borough Hall:
"AT&T helped fund the festival’s expansion and its app creation turning the event into a Fashion Week-like event for book geeks." New York Daily News, Sept. 13, 2012
AT&T expands school enrichment program for 9th and 10th graders in Greenpoint, Brooklyn:
"At the Williamsburg Prep library, AT&T executives gladly presented the check in an event attended by Williamsburg Prep Principal Michael Shadrick, Greenpoint Y Executive Director Keith Hicks and Director of Teen & Sports Jamel Davis, Assemblyman Joe Lentol and Y Scholars. Many spoke of the need for continued support for public education in the midst of severe cuts." — Greenpoint Gazette, Sept. 13, 2012
Manhattan
AT&T supports engagement of neighborhood residents along the High Line:
"With the support of AT&T, we are continuing our community engagement work, with the goal of expanding communications to the public housing complexes, increasing local participation in public programs, and continuing the tradition of open dialogue between our organization and the communities we serve." — High Line Blog, Sept. 27, 2012
Queens
AT&T and Schools Chancellor present $300,000 grant to Flushing High School
"Ninth graders at an embattled Flushing High School have been given a leg up. The Sports & Arts in Schools Foundation (SASF), an after-school program at the struggling school, received the hefty grant from AT&T." — Queens Courier, Sept. 27, 2012
AT&T closes summer season of outdoor cinema at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City:
"AT&T supported the park's free Wednesday evening program with regional cuisine, picnic on the grass, performances by local musicians and dancers, and when the sun sets, screening of international films." — Socrates Sculpture Park, July 4 - Aug. 22, 2012
Staten Island
AT&T Wi-Fi at Staten Island boardwalk launch was 'wildly successful':
"Borough President James Molinaro Wednesday, praising the citywide initiative first instituted by AT&T and the Bloomberg administration in May." Staten Island Advance, Aug. 29, 2012

Robert Patterson of Progressive Computing to provide Microsoft Partner Consultation to NYXPO Business Makeover Winner

New York, NY (October 5, 2012) - Robb Patterson, business development manager at Westchester and Manhattan-based Progressive Computing, Inc. (PCI), will participate in the 24-Hour Small Biz Makeover Contest during the New York Business Expo and Conference (NYXPO) at the Javits Center on October 17th. Patterson is also on the steering committee for the NYXPO, which will feature 200 exhibitors and 40 seminars, and is expected to draw more than 10,000 executives.
A leading technology consultant and advisor to businesses and community organizations, as well as a sought after speaker and writer in the New York metro area, Patterson will provide the Makeover winner with a 1-hour Microsoft Partner Consultation as part of the overall contest prize. The consultation will consist of a review of current technology adoption and planned future need. Based on this analysis, a technology plan can be implemented to ensure the right tools are in place to provide stability and foster growth.

“Educating business owners and helping them make the most of the technology resources available to them is my passion,” said Patterson. “The Makeover is a really fun and exciting way to do that, and I’m looking forward to participating for the second year in a row.”

At Progressive Computing, a Microsoft Small Business Specialist which designs, installs and maintains computer networks for small and mid-sized companies, Patterson is responsible for establishing new client relationships and acting as an account manager, working closely with PCI’s IT technicians to ensure each client’s total satisfaction. He also shares his expertise as founder and acting president of the New York Small Business Server Group and an active member of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, where he is Co-Chair of the Tech committee and a “select member” of the Mid-Market committee.

NYXPO’s Small Biz Makeover Contest is open to business owners 21 years of age or older who have been in business for 2+ years and have an active website as well as social media platform(s). MCC Green Business Committee: October Meetings

We love to talk about sustainability at MCC! Please join us to meet your fellow chamber members in the sustainability field and discuss the following topics.

MCC Green Committee Meetings

The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Green Business Committee is pleased to commence monthly Green Design & Construction sub-committee meetings. This meeting is for those in the sustainability, construction, architecture, interior design or related fields. This will be an introductory meeting. Please be prepared to introduce yourself and talk for 2-3 minutes about your business. Please also bring your ideas of what you’d like to see from this committee!

Please join us to discuss recent developments in the green finance sector.

This is a meeting for green energy professionals or those in a directly related field. Guest speaker: Saverio Grosso, ENERActive Solutions and Jessica Cooper, Urban Green Council.

MCC Co-Sponsored events:

The Sustainability Summit emphasis is on identifying innovative diverse small businesses and engaging industry leaders and stakeholders who support practical green initiatives and strategic partnering. Interested groups will be industry leaders, leaders in corporate America, government officials and multicultural businesses of all sizes. Discussions will also focus upon sharing successes and ideas as an incentive to create green partnerships in order to become and remain viable in the 21st century. What differentiates this Summit from others is its laser focus on exploring and resolving the sustainability concerns of both its purchasing membership and large multi-ethnic supplier base. Further, the Summit will showcase commercial sector match-making with green vendors. Numerous panel sessions are scheduled to feature prominent speakers in sustainability at varying levels that will directly address your operations and share their experiences. The Summit will also highlight stateside innovation of products and services from businesses that need access to clean tech funding through its Innovation Arena. The Summit will promote the next generation of sustainable practices and alternative energy technologies from certified businesses. More importantly, this Summit is an invitation and challenge to all enterprises for creating sustainable partnerships for supply chains and stimulating US economic growth.

We thank Con Edison Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Programs for sponsoring the MCC Green Business Committee for 2012.
