Role Reversal: Corporates to Pitch Budding Startups at SwitchPitch NYC
Popular DC event heads to the Big Apple to Rev-Up Startup Community

New York, New York, July 31, 2013: SwitchPitch, the only place where established companies can pitch their technology needs to vetted startups, announced today that it will be holding its second reverse pitch event on October, 1, 2013 at NYU Skirball Center. On the heels of its successful Washington, DC launch in March 2013, SwitchPitch is making its way to the Big Apple where it aims to facilitate continued growth for the NYC startup community by allowing organizations like News Corp., TIME, Inc., Edelman PR, CPX Interactive and New York Daily News to pitch their project needs to qualified and vetted startups. As witnessed by 300+ in attendance at the DC event, this role reversal will allow startups to accelerate customer revenue and engage in strategic partnerships, while providing corporations with the opportunity to get their projects off the ground at entrepreneur speed and efficiency.

While pitching is traditionally reserved for startup companies trying to make a name for themselves among more established organizations, SwitchPitch is flipping the tables to allow some of the biggest and most successful corporations to present their technology and marketing project needs to an audience of nearly 850 early stage companies. Accordingly, these large corporations will be able to complete projects in a more efficient, entrepreneurial time frame and build relationships with future technology leaders. Similarly, startups will have the chance to ramp up their customer acquisition base, building long-term lasting relationships between today and tomorrow’s successful companies. Both will have the chance to network with a star-studded list of local companies and listen to keynotes from the likes of Kevin Ryan, founder of Gilt, co-founder of Doubleclick, among others.

“After the success we had in DC, there was no doubt in our mind that the next evolution of SwitchPitch would take place in NYC,” said Sita Vasan, Executive Director of SwitchPitch. “We’re once again proud to be connecting today’s business and technology leaders with those of the future. We saw great success earlier this year and are continuing to see the fruits of relationships cultivated at our first SwitchPitch event. We look forward to providing the same opportunity to corporates and startups in the metro-NYC area. “

Large organizations and startups looking to join SwitchPitch should head to www.switchpitch.comand select “Apply to Attend” or reach out to Sita Vasan at Sita@switchpitch.com. More information can be found on the SwitchPitch website and below:

MCC Grantee, Eviction Intervention Services, on a mission to prevent homelessness

Dear EIS Friends and Supporters!

Please take a moment to read the article, attached, which appears in today's THE NEW YORK TIMES.

Each day, EIS meets a person much like those profiled in the piece. Just yesterday, Pauline was at EIS. Pauline lives with her 18 year old son in Upper Manhattan; she works as a security guard and during a good week she can earn $300.00 but...like so many, if she does not work, she does not get paid. Pauline is a widow thus she and her son do get a monthly Social Security support subsidy of $550.00 per month. Still- it's almost impossible for her to keep up with her monthly rent payment of $1090/month...particularly when she must also buy a monthly metrocard, put food on the table and do laundry! She and her son don't live a luxurious life but routine activities do cost money. This spring her son was ill and the co-payments for antibiotics and other medications made things even more difficult...Pauline fell behind in her rent and is now in Housing Court.

HOW DOES EIS HELP?
EIS is trying very hard to keep Pauline and her son from entering the shelter system. What have we done? EIS sat Pauline down for Benefits Entitlement Counseling and application filing; we are pretty positive her household should receive SNAP (food stamp benefits) as well as health care through Child Health Plus, if not medicaid. We also have reached out for rental arrear stipends. EIS is also in discussions with Pauline's landlord about a payment plan arrangement; the housing management agency recognizes Pauline and her son are good tenants to have in their building...but we all understand rent must be paid.

As the article points out, the average monthly cost to the City of maintaining a family in the shelter system is $3000.00. Pauline and her son make it on a lot less each month!!
We thank you for your generous support to and interest in EIS-our work, our mission and our clients!

Please take a moment: http://nyti.ms/154wWaO

NYTimes: In New York, Having a Job, or 2, Doesn’t Mean Having a Home

Affordable-housing advocates say the homeless work force is proof of the widening gap between wages and rents and the difficulty in escaping the shelter system.
