New York City Clean-Tech Trade Mission, India: Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, March 3-9, 2013
Introduction:
With the 5th largest energy generation capacity in the world, India is a prime market for U.S. companies interested in exporting their clean technology product or service. The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), the City of New York and the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, with technical support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), are collaboratively organizing the New York Clean Technology Trade Mission to India, scheduled for March 3-9, 2013, and will include stops in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The Mission will focus on facilitating business in India’s emerging market for energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and services by: 1) introducing NY companies to industry representatives, potential clients and partners; 2) introducing NY companies to Indian government officials in India to learn about policy initiatives that will impact the implementation of energy generation, energy conservation and environmental projects; and 3) by giving NY companies media opportunities before, during and after the trade mission with a strategic partnership with the Times Business Solutions group and Times of India.
Urban India has attracted investment based on strong growth and is expected to generate nearly 70 percent of GDP by 2030, but as the urban population and its incomes rise, need for every service will expand five-to-seven folds, including energy. India will need to dramatically step up urban infrastructure to bridge the gap between service demands and availability, which will require $ 1.2 trillion worth of investments in capital expenditure in cities over the next two decades.
Mission Outline:
The mission will help participating firms gain market insights, make industry contacts, solidify business strategies, and advance specific projects, with the goal of increasing NY green exports to India. The mission will include one-on-one business appointments with pre-screened potential buyers, agents, distributors and joint venture partners; meeting with national, regional and local government officials; networking events; and media opportunities. Participating in an official U.S. industry delegation, rather than traveling to India on their own, will enhance the companies’ ability to secure productive meetings in India.
Potential Meetings for Delegates:
· One-on-One meetings with at least 3-5 potential partners at each stop
· Briefings by US DOC Staff and other U.S. Government Agencies at each stop
· Meetings with relevant government officials, local and nationally
· Networking events with potential partners and customers.

MCC Small Business Recovery Grant Distribution: Suteishi Restaurant in South Street Seaport Area
MCC awarded a $500 grant to Victor Chan, owner of Suteishi Restaurant, 24 Peck Slip in the South Street Seaport footprint. Victor’s restaurant was 6 feet under water during Sandy and now the landlord has to replace AC units as well as make other infrastructure repairs to the building and space. Victor has spent 7 years at this location building the business and his clientele and did not want to give up and move elsewhere. He thought out of the box, raised some monies through crowdfunding and is renting a kitchen from other local business owner so he can offer his catering menu, keeping some of his employees and satisfy his customers even though the restaurant is not open. Good for you Victor! www.suteishi.com

MCC Small Business Recovery Grant Distribution: Fidi Cleaners, Lower Manhattan
MCC awarded a $500 grant to Matt Khatamov, owner of Fidi Cleaners located at 89 Washington Street in lower Manhattan. Matt’s business not only had no power, ho heat or water, all of the buildings around him which house his clients were closed and many told that they would not have power for 5 months. They made other arrangements and probably only 30% of the residential units around him are occupied despite the fact that generators were brought in and have been powering the building. A man living in Tribeca who works in the neighborhood came in and saw that Matt needed business and brought a lot of clothing down for Matt to clean. New Yorkers do help each other!
